Paints: practice
The choice of paint is a difficult process, in fact there are several hundreds kinds of paint of different manufacturers, both Russian and foreign, in the market. Several kinds of paint which find a market are produced under the trade mark ‘Solid’. They are the universal enamels PF-223 and PF-115, enamel PF-266 for painting floors and also base coating GF-021. So, the paint choice is made, what’s next? Irrespective of type of the surface which is to be painted it is necessary to carry out some spade-work before starting the process of coating. The surface should be degreased (for this purpose wash up preparations, containing surface-active substances may be used, but after that the surface should be thoroughly wiped and dried), cleaned from dust, dirt, rust, old delaminated paint should be removed. Rough surfaces should be filled with a layer of medium speckle before being painted. If necessary, the surface is should be sanded flat. | Before any enamel is applied, the paint is thoroughly stirred so that the pigment added to it (in the ‘Solid’ paints it is titan dioxide) was uniformly distributed in the solvent. Viscosity of paint can be changed by diluting the paint with white spirit or solvent. It is possible to apply enamel with the help of brush, paint roller or spray gun. While painting, it is recommended to put on a mask and to use gloves, after the work it is required to air the room.
| When painting windows it is necessary to remember that dark color of the paint attracts sun rays and the window will retain heat. For example, surface painted with white paint, is heated up to 40 ˚C, red - brown - up to 60 ˚C, dark-blue - up to 75 ˚C! Wood extends when heated and as a result tiny cracks in the layer of the paint may appear and some fields may shell, especially on joints of longitudinal and cross-section racks of the frame.
